Three words, Cardinal Dolan: “Cancel the Dinner”

Posted on
by Jenn Giroux

According to the New York Times, “The Archdiocese of New York confirmed that both Mr. Obama and Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, had accepted an invitation to speak on Oct. 18 at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, a glittering New York Catholic charity event that has served for more than six decades as a lighthearted pit stop for presidential candidates in the weeks before national elections.”

Discovering that this was done with Cardinal Dolan’s blessing is devastating.

Joseph Zwilling, a spokesperson for the New York Diocese told LifeSiteNews: “Cardinal Dolan and the Smith Foundation extended the invitation this year to the two of them. It is non-partisan, it puts aside differences for a good cause to support women and their babies. It brings together people from both sides of the isle for an evening of good humor and good fellowship and civil discourse — something we need more of.”

The last scene in The Godfather comes to mind. As a newborn baby is baptized and the words of the priest are being heard praying the sacred words of the sacrament, the viewer is visually walked through the calculated killings of each one of the mob family leaders. The open display of hypocrisy in this intermingling of good and evil was startling and unforgettable.

President Obama’s attending a Catholic Charity to benefit women and their babies is a gross display of such hypocrisy.

I cannot quite find the words to define the outrage I am feeling.

The number of “women and their babies” that have been wounded and aborted through both surgical and chemical abortions as a result of President Obama’s policies and actions here at home and around the globe are beyond epidemic numbers. Giving this man a platform at such a high profile Catholic event even outdoes the embarrassment of having seen him speak at Notre Dame because this is being done with the blessing of America’s highest ranking Cardinal.

Additionally, this will cause massive confusion among Catholics. It allows President Obama to further signal that he’s just one of the guys palling around with notable Catholics that like him and like his policies.

We are standing at the most serious moral point in our nation’s history. We have a President and his administration that have begun the persecution of Catholic institutions and employers while violating their rights to religious liberty for the first time in American history. He supports and pushes every form of birth control and abortion both within the United States and across the world. And he is the first President to openly endorse and advocate for same-sex marriage!! There is no moral justification for an evening of “good humor and good fellowship” with a President or anyone who by their very actions spit into the face of Jesus Christ and His Church.

As the highest ranking Cardinal in the United States and President of the Board of the Smith Foundation, Cardinal Dolan can put a stop to this. It is an embarrassment to him and our Catholic Church.

The ‘tradition’ of inviting the Presidential nominees to this charity dinner does not trump the morality of our nation.

Cardinal Dolan, we feel betrayed.

Please send a message to the world that the actions of this President are too egregious and immoral for a night of “good humor and good fellowship.”

Three words, Cardinal.

“Cancel the dinner.”

Your credibility in telling Catholics to resist this immoral and unconstitutional Obama birth control mandate is riding on it.

Allegations and lawsuit about Fr. Tom Euteneuer: Can we believe anything this woman says?

Posted on

By Jenn Giroux

Sadly, the saga of Fr. Tom Euteneuer is back in the news. For ten years, Fr. Tom provided fearless and uncompromising leadership as President of Human Life International (HLI), taking the organization and its pro-life mission across the globe. He traveled over a million miles worldwide, distributed over 3 million ‘St Michael the Archangel prayer cards” internationally, wrote two books, a weekly column of inspiration to be matched by few, and boldly proclaimed the immutable teaching of the Roman Catholic Church against birth control and abortion. Along the way, Fr. Tom became involved in exorcisms and answered the call of countless souls in spiritual distress. This is dangerous work that requires unique, selfless courage.

Way too many people today stand silent when the personal risk feels too high to speak up. I was taught from my earliest memories to stand up for the Truth, even at the most difficult times. This is one of these times. It is no coincidence that God allowed me to work at HLI with Fr. Tom Euteneuer just prior to his departure. I write this for those who knew Fr. Tom and experienced his kindness and holy priesthood. They are the ones that sense that there is more than meets the eye here. They are also the ones who fully understand why he would be a prime target for such a severe spiritual attack.

Fr. Tom left HLI in August 2010 for reasons that did not reach the public realm until early 2011. As Fr. Tom explained in his one public statement, which included an apology that was the model of true humility and repentance, he had violated priestly chastity with one woman who was under his spiritual care. He was called back to his diocese (Palm Beach, Florida) by his Bishop in August 2010 and has been out of the public eye ever since.

This week we were greeted by new headlines about Fr. Tom Euteneuer when “the woman” filed a lawsuit against HLI and the Diocese of Arlington, VA. The Complaint is unnecessarily salacious but notable for one thing: Neither Fr. Tom Eutenuer nor the Bishop of Palm Beach are named as Defendants. One of the woman’s lawyers was quoted as saying that Fr. Tom had entered into a financial agreement with her — something that I know to be false. (Why does the truth always suffer as soon as a lawyer opens his mouth?) It is easy to surmise what really happened: the Diocese of Palm Beach most likely settled with the woman and included Fr. Tom in the settlement without his knowledge or consent. That’s how these things work. And now the woman and her lawyers (who will likely receive 40% of any settlement) have turned their guns elsewhere, seeking another large payoff.

Reading the many stories in the news, and considering them in conjunction with other statements made by the woman and her family, one must ask the questions: Can we believe anything this woman says? What is her reality? How strong are the demonic influences at any given time? Wherever the lawyers take this one, let us not lose sight of the fact that this woman sought Fr. Tom’s assistance because she was already deeply disturbed. Fr. Tom has already taken full responsibility for his own fall from grace and for his indiscretions in a truly diabolical situation. However, I think it is fair to assume that his apology, written over a year ago, does not mean that he agrees or admits to everything this woman is now claiming in her new lawsuit. That is part of the deception that comes across in the media and statements from other entities involved. It will be interesting to follow the efforts of the woman and her lawyers as they try to blame Fr. Tom and everyone else for the totality of her current state. I will be watching with great skepticism.

I recognize that the following will be controversial. Nonetheless, it needs to be said (especially in this situation). As a society we have grown to believe that a priest is guilty until proven innocent. This is not right. Priests should be entitled to the same rights as anyone else. Who protects our priests from sexually aggressive women? When will there ever be a legal finding of a priest being the victim of a persistent, abusive, and stalking woman? My guess is “Never.” Priests, by their very nature, are expected to help people who come to them. They are sitting ducks for manipulative women.

I accept Fr. Euteneuer’s explanation and apology. One error in judgment cannot wipe away all of the good he has done for the Church and countless souls around the world. The picture that is being painted by this lawsuit and spread across the media is just plain wrong.

I am reminded of the dialogue from the movie The Exorcist, when Fr. Marrin warned the younger Fr. Karras about what they were about to encounter: “It is important to avoid conversations with the demon. He is a liar. The demon is a liar. He will lie to confuse us, but he will mix lies with the truth to attack us. The attack is psychological, Damien, and powerful. So do not listen. Remember that. Do not listen.”

Through it all, Fr. Tom Euteneuer, a good and holy priest who was entrapped by the demon, will continue to suffer in silent obedience to his bishop.

I ask readers to once again pray for Father Euteneuer, this troubled woman and those around her who seek to further harm the Church, Fr.Tom’s priesthood, and reputation. In the age that we live, there is never enough restitution for these people.

When the womb is a battlefield

by Judie Brown

A baby is a blessing. Sadly, that mentality seems to be a thing of the past. Instead, today a baby is often thought of as an intrusion, an annoyance, or a thing that can be discarded at any time and for any reason — especially if he does not meet society’s standards of normalcy. Today’s commentary addresses this mentality and explains why this attitude must change if our society is to ever find peace. We must help people realize that, truly, a baby is a blessing. ‘Get over it’: children of anonymous sperm donors met with hostility, ridicule, say activists

June 19, 2012 ( – For children of anonymous sperm donors yearning for a connection to their biological father, the world can be an unwelcome place.

Instead of meeting compassion, many say that society treats their pain with a dismissive or even hostile attitude – a rift caused by lack of awareness as much as by the brute force of a $3.3 billion industry.

Alana, the child of a sperm donor and the activist behind, says she realized the hard way what she was up against when she began her awareness campaign. Continue reading

Choose ‘Divine Love’

Not too long ago I attended a Catholic funeral of a close friend. Knowing that half of the family in attendance was of the Muslim faith I asked the non-ordained ‘funeral assistant’ of the parish to please ask the priest to announce the guidelines for whether or not a person in attendance should receive the Holy Eucharist. He responded, “We leave that up to Jesus.” I asked him a second time to please be sure that the announcement was made. Unfortunately, my request was ignored and over 15 Muslims stood and got in line to receive the Body of Christ. They were sitting a few rows in front of me and so I could not help but observe that one of the college-aged women did not consume the consecrated Host. After I received Our Lord myself I walked over to her pew and gently put out my hand and said, “I will take the Host, please.” A bit startled, she reached into her purse and retrieved the consecrated Host and gave it to me. I consumed it immediately. Knowing the kindness of this Muslim family, I truly think that they went to Communion out of a courtesy for the family of the deceased so not to offend them. The reality is that they had no clue or understanding of the true presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Unfortunately, this extends to most Catholics who also fail to understand what constitutes a worthy reception of communion.

This experience highlighted for me the deep problem within our One, Holy, Catholic Church. In a world where young people are taught to question authority and everything that they are taught by parents and schools alike, it is clear that the Catholic Church has failed to properly prepare its members with the basic knowledge of this key spiritual weapon (the Eucharist) that is desperately needed to resist the twisted culture that seeks to consume them every day. There is a widespread lack of understanding, lack of respect, and lack of teaching from the pulpit on the basic truths regarding the Holy Eucharist. Do some of own priests not even believe in the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist? Do Catholics today even understand what sets the Catholic Church apart from the Mega-Church-bring-your-own-latte experience? Do Catholics, both active and fallen away, grasp or understand what the “Transubstantiation” even is?

These questions and so many other key issues are penetrated by the new and timely book published by Catholic Action for Faith and Family called“Divine Love Made Flesh: The Holy Eucharist as the Sacrament of Charity” by Cardinal Raymond Burke. In a sea of intellectually drowning Catholics who have been told for many years to ‘follow your conscience’ without having received the proper catechesis to have an ‘informed conscience,’ Cardinal Burke has just thrown us all a lifeline to embrace and hold onto. So many Catholics are too busy with their daily duties and the fast pace of their lives to read and research the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, worthy reception of communion, and the life-sustaining power of frequent communions. In his first book ever, Cardinal Burke has provided great insight and summary on the Holy Eucharist while weaving in the teaching from two great Popes: Ecclesia de Eucharistia by Blessed Pope John Paul II and Sacramentum Caritatis, a Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation by Pope Benedict XVI. In Divine Love Made Flesh Cardinal Burke shines further light upon the Church’s call to each of us to partake in “the new evangelization.” He enlightens us on the need to desire and receive the Holy Eucharist, a powerful grace to our souls that can transform us in the daily work of our individual vocations. He reminds us of the prophetic words of Blessed Pope John Paul II in saying: “In the humble signs of the bread and wine, changed into His Body and Blood, Christ walks beside us as our strength and our food for the journey, and He enables us to become, for everyone, witnesses of hope.”

In chapter 6 of John’s Gospel Jesus says to a multitude of people: “Amen, amen I say unto you: unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood you shall not have life within you….after this many walked no more with Him.” Indeed, many walked away from Jesus as He revealed to them what we now understand as the ‘source and summit’ of our Faith some 2000+ years later. He knew exactly what he was saying to them. He did not call after them and say “Wait, let me explain.” He spoke the truth and offered the words of salvation for those who would choose to hear, embrace, and follow. Cardinal Burke gently yet firmly reminds us that this same divine roadmap to salvation is extended to all of us today.

Trusting and believing in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is a willful act of Faith for all of us. We must have the discipline to choose it. The temptation of the human spirit is to doubt. Doubt leads to internal fear and it becomes easy to think, “Am I the only one who is struggling to believe that is truly Jesus when the Host is elevated at Mass?”

The answer is “no.” I recall 22 years ago sitting in Church and hearing a powerful sermon on the Eucharist. The late Fr. Ben Wolf, a very holy and pious priest who was an inspiration in his vocation to all who knew him, said the following:

“How do we understand and comprehend that it is truly Jesus in the Eucharist? We don’t. We trust and we believe. In my entire life and in over 50 years as a priest I have only had two times that I received a very warm internal consolation of understanding and closeness to Jesus in the Eucharist. That was a gift. The rest of the time I believe and know that I can trust it to be true because Jesus, Himself, told me so. That is all any one of us needs to know.”

This was a shocking revelation and a profound moment for all those who knew this special priest. Every Mass he celebrated was a very holy experience and he had a special way that he pulled those in attendance into the reverence for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Divine Love Made Flesh has the very same effect on those who read it. Cardinal Burke has provided a gift to the world on a subject that requires great devotion and faith from the depths of our souls. We so often hear that ‘love is a choice.’ Divine Love Made Flesh is a book that stirs the soul to realize that we must choose Jesus,Divine Love Made Flesh, in our lives again and again. It educates the reader in a way which helps us to understand in both intellectual and intangible spiritual ways the grace and daily help that awaits us in the Eucharist. This book will lift your eyes to heaven as you gain a deeper understanding of what is happening at the point of Transubstantiation when the bread becomes Jesus, truly present on the alter. For those religious and layman who believe, for those who do not believe, and for those who struggle with what the Church teaches on the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and the miracles that flow from it, Divine Love Made Flesh is gift wrapped and waiting for you just in time for the start of the “Year of Faith.” How perfect that this beautiful labor of love is released to the public on the June 7, 2012, Feast of Corpus Christi. Will you be open to hear, embrace, and follow?

“Increase my Faith, Dear Jesus, in Thy real presence here and make me feel most deeply that thou to me are near.” — Oh, Lord, I am not worthy Hymn

Phill Kline’s legal marathon to clear his good name and save his law license

On May 15, 2012 the legal team of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline filed a motion in the Kansas Supreme Court seeking the recusal of two justices who would otherwise sit in review of Kline’s appeal of an ethics panels’ recommendation that his law license be indefinitely suspended after he prevailed in successfully filing criminal charges against Planned Parenthood. The motion seeks to recuse both Justice Carol Beier for her bias and deception and Justice Lawton Nuss, who, himself, was the subject of an ethics complaint brought by Kline when he was Attorney General. The legal brief is nothing short of a white hot legal bombshell. The majority of the brief focuses on Justice Beier. The heavily footnoted motion exposes for anyone who reads it, Justice Beier’s pattern of dishonest opinion writing, her bias against Kline, and her aggressive activism from the bench to protect the abortion industry from legitimate legal prosecution. The motion also reveals Beier’s tactics to undercut and defeat legitimate enforcement of Kansas laws designed to protect children from sexual abuse.

As prosecutor of Johnson County, Kansas, Kline filed 107 criminal charges against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri in October, 2007. While civil suits have been filed against Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers in the past, Phill Kline’s investigation was the first and only criminal case pursued against the abortion giant by a prosecutor in our nation’s history. While in office, Kline was personally attacked and publicly maligned by the Kansas Supreme Court (and their friends in the media) for his willingness to investigate child rape and illegal abortions that were being performed by Planned Parenthood and late term abortionist George Tiller. Every single judge that reviewed Kline’s evidence found probable cause that crimes had been committed. The detailed recusal motion reveals the deception of Justice Carol Beier, a lifetime appointee to the Kansas Supreme Court by then-Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Beier prevented Kline’s prosecution of Planned Parenthood from ever reaching trial, and her not-so-subtle dishonesty came to light when she crafted a remedy in one case that required Kline to hand over all of his evidence to his successor, former Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison, who made clear his intention of returning the evidence to Planned Parenthood. You read that right: while Planned Parenthood was fighting to derail Kline’s investigations of abortion-related crimes, Justice Beier fashioned a factually dishonest opinion that required Kline to turn over the evidence gathered during his investigation to the target of the investigation.

Additionally, Mr. Kline’s appeal brief dismantles the flawed reasoning of the Disciplinary Panel which conducted a kangaroo court-like hearing and has now recommended his suspension. The outcome was all too predictable despite the fact that there are no facts to support their findings and recommendations.

It is important to keep the following facts in mind:

1. While Kline has been constantly maligned with accusations that he was violating patient privacy, not a single patient name was ever revealed by him or his staff in two prosecutorial offices covering nearly six years of effort.

2. The evidence clearly shows hundreds of abortions on children. Under state and federal law these pregnancies are a result of child abuse/rape. Of over 400 abortions on children, only 16 were reported as potential abuse. To date, no one but Kline has seriously followed up on that evidence or these abused children.

3. Justice Carole Beier is a Sebelius appointee and an avid supporter of abortion. She formerly worked for the National Women’s Law Center which represented interests supporting abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. This presents a clear bias and conflict for her in this case.

4. None of the allegations against Phill Kline relate to the investigation that he initiated against the Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri. They are created accusations which are completely false.

5. The evidence against Planned Parenthood has always been, and continues to be, strong and verifiable.

6. Every judge who has reviewed the evidence has found probable cause to believe that Planned Parenthood committed crimes.

7. Justice Beier, as revealed in the recusal motion, has written approvingly of using the media as a “tool” to shape public perception in order to bring about “legal reform” in support of “third-wave feminism.” And that is exactly what she achieved with her anti-Kline opinions — turning Kline into a reviled figure in Kansas based in large part on non-existent evidence and lies about the actual evidence.

8. Kline consistently prevailed in moving the case forward while he was in office because the evidence was so strong. However, he lost in the public perception game because of Beier’s deceptions and the deliberate media confusion created in Kansas, a state whose mainstream media feeds off the lies of one another. At the height of Kline’s investigation the main newspaper, The Kansas City Star, ran a cartoon of Kline sitting on the bench next to a little girl with his hand up her dress. The script under the photo mocked the investigation of child rape with the theme: “he’ll violate anyone’s privacy to get what he wants.” That same paper was awarded the “Maggie Award” by Planned Parenthood (in honor of founder, Margaret Sanger) for their editorial efforts to unseat Phill Kline.

Phill Kline lost his bid for re-election in 2008. It was a tragic turn of events when then Senator, now Governor of Kansas Sam Brownback betrayed the pro-life movement and longtime friend, Phill Kline, by endorsing RINO Steve Howe, who now serves as prosecutor over the remaining criminal case against Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, Howe has chosen to drop the felony charges which could have led to the de-funding of Planned Parenthood nationwide. Many in the pro-life community (inside Kansas and across the country) have believed for some time that Howe lacks the will and the desire to aggressively prosecute the case against Planned Parenthood. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of this is the fact that throughout Kline’s ordeal of fighting unjust charges from political enemies, (i.e. friends of the abortion industry trying to remove Kline’s law license), there has been only silence from Governor Brownback’s office. He sat in the Governor’s office just blocks away from where Phill Kline was put on trial by Beier’s political hacks. It calls to mind the biblical verse: “I do not know the man” (Mathew 26: 72). This is no surprise coming from the same man who betrayed the entire country by refusing to invoke a long standing Senate tradition which allowed one Senator of a nominee’s home state to pull the plug on their nomination. This would have stopped the appointment of Kathleen Sebelius as Obama’s HHS Secretary. Brownback, in both scenarios, could have changed the course of events by simply stepping forward for the truth. He chose political self-preservation instead.

Many may ask: “Why are they still after Kline?”

The answer is simple. Planned Parenthood wants to make an example of Phill Kline to send this message to all prosecutors nationwide: if you pursue criminal investigations against the abortion industry, you will suffer….you will be sued, you will be unjustifiably charged with trumped-up ethical accusations, you be will be sued again and again, you will be lied about in the media, you will be betrayed by political friends in high places, your ability to support your family will be targeted, and of course, you will be politically assassinated. The one thing they have continually underestimated is Kline’s tenacity and willingness to stand up for the truth and the law in order to protect the legal rights of abused children and the unborn. The power of that truth can be found in the legal brief filed this week. This case against Phill Kline has far reaching effects if Justice Beier and her other abortion-minded friends on the bench succeed. Few people in my lifetime have endured what Phill Kline and his family has been put through. Kline’s silent strength shines through in all of the suffering. It has been both inspiring and painful to watch. And it is a story that must be told. Truly they are a living example of this verse: “Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven.” (Mathew 5: 3-12)

Please pray for Phill Kline, his family, and his legal team. This is a very critical moment which exposes the agenda driven abortion activism of the left which is not only flowing from the Supreme Court of Kansas but also seen in every state in America.

Many are shocked to find out that this persecution continues against Phill Kline. He left political office and the state of Kansas to teach at Liberty University Law School 4 years ago!! The marathon to clear his good name and save his law license continues to drag on. Clearly Planned Parenthood and their friends on the Kansas Supreme Court will not rest until they make him pay a heavy price for exposing the crimes behind the secret walls of the abortion industry. His efforts were among the first ever to pierce through their public relations machine and expose their criminal activity…..before Lila Rose’s undercover investigations, before the financial fraud of the abortion provider in California, before the horrifying conditions were revealed inside the clinic in Philadelphia, and before it was popular to talk about de-funding Planned Parenthood. As for the 2 Kansas Supreme Court justices in question here, it is clear that they, themselves, are deserving of prosecution not only for obstruction of justice but for targeting one of their own, a GREAT Attorney General and prosecutor who dared to discharge the duties of his office by looking at the evidence which proved the abortion industry was and still is involved in criminal activity. Stay tuned… ain’t over until the fat justice sings!
